The Kidneys

The kidneys job is to filter chemicals that the body cannot use out of the blood. When your two kidneys are healthy, waste chemicals disslove in the urine and are carried out of the body.

Common kidney problems

  • Kidney Stones. Under certain conditions, chemicals build up in the kidney and stick together to form stones. Kindey stones may block the flow of urine and cause excruciating pain.
  • Kidney Infections. Usually less painful than kidney stones, kidney infections are very serious and require immediate medical attention.

About Our Services

In treating kidney stones, Southwest Urology physicians frequently use a non-invasive procedure, called lithotripsy.

Lithotripsy is a method of crushing the kidney stone while it's still inside your body. The doctor carefully directs shock waves through your body and hits the stone, causing it to crumble like sand and then easily pass with your urine. This procedure takes about an hour and usually does not require an overnight hospital stay.

Please call Southwest Urology at (440) 845-0900 if you have any questions regarding kidney problems or to arrange for an appointment with one of our qualified physicians.
