Bladder Stones

Bladder stones are usually the result of another urologic problem such as urinary tract infection, bladder diverticulum (pouches in the bladder), neurogenic bladder (loss of normal bladder function) or enlarged prostate.

Treatment Options

Left untreated, bladder stones may cause permanent damage to the bladder or kidneys. SouthWest Urology, Inc. urologists may suggest the following treatment options:

  • Minimally invasive procedures utilizing a cystoscope or lithotripter
  • Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy to break up the stones
  • Surgery
